Dunblane Car-Free DayDunblane Car-Free Day 2010 - Wednesday 22 September 2010This year Dunblane people are joining millions of others all over the world who are leaving their cars at home for International Car-Free Day.
Sustainable Dunblane’s Transport Group has secured funding from the Climate Challenge Fund to encourage as many people as possible in this tiny city to join in. The aim is to help reduce the city’s carbon footprint – the amount of CO2 it releases into the atmosphere – as much as possible.
Everyone who lives in the area will receive a postcard inviting them to join in, and giving them the option to return the Freepost postcard to us with details of the amount of miles, and CO2, they have saved by walking, cycling or using public transport for that day’s journeys instead of the car.
All three primary schools are keen to run a walk to school event – either just on the day or for the whole week. Each child will be able to log how many miles they have saved to go towards the school’s total – there may even be a prize for the school with the highest per capita saving!
Shops and offices in the town and further afield will also be encouraged to join in – so contact us if your organisation would like to take part.
