About Us
How it began…

Back in the spring of 2008 a group of people that lived in and around Dunblane got together to talk about two issues that really worried them - Climate Change and Peak Oil. They had heard about Transition Towns and were interested in the idea of working together to ‘transition’ Dunblane from a town reliant on fossil fuels to one sustainably powered by renewable energy.
The group met several times for talks and discussions; trying to figure out what we could actually do. Along the way we also had to do the boring but necessary stuff like writing a constitution and setting up a bank account – Tim, Bridget and Elaine, you have our endless gratitude for taking on the lion’s share of that thankless task!

Over time two ideas took root and began to grow. The first was to get more people walking and cycling around the town. The second was to improve the energy efficiency of homes in Dunblane and to start generating some of our own energy too.
A third idea also began to grow around the idea of using the arts – drama, music and comedy – to get more people involved. These ideas have now blossomed into fully formed Arts, Energy and Transport Working Groups – click the links on the left hand menu to find out more about what they’re up to.
How it works…
Any group of people who have an idea and want to take action to reduce our reliance on fossil fuel can form a working group. Working Groups are fairly autonomous and make their own plans; shaped by the interests and enthusiasm of their members. Each working group nominates one or two people to be their representatives on a central Management Group.
The Management Group then take responsibility for doing all the tasks necessary to run a group such as administering the bank account and doing the accounts. The Management Group also exists so the groups have a way of communicating with each other and keeping everyone up to date with what they are doing.
Other community groups that are interested in transition issues and want to join in the communication bit are welcome at Management Group meetings too.
