Sustainable Dunblane

The Sustainable Dunblane Energy Group has just launched three new projects to tackle energy efficiency and climate change.

The first of our projects will be looking at improving the energy efficiency of hard-to-treat homes in the Dunblane area by conducting detailed surveys, taking thermal images, and pressure testing the buildings. This will give us a good picture of exactly where the problems lie and from there we can analyse the best measure to take to improve the efficiency and lower fuel bills. Hard to treat homes are basically those which can’t be insulated using standard measures such as loft or cavity wall insulation which are currently being offered by the Governments Home Insulation scheme.

Our second project will see the same measures as those detailed in project 1 conducted on community buildings in Dunblane. Many of these buildings suffer from the same problems as hard to treat homes, and again, cannot take advantage of the Governments Home Insulation Scheme. Analysing these buildings and assisting them improve their energy efficiency will help with more than just their management; it will also benefit the users as they will be warmer, comfier places to be.

For our final project we have managed to secure funding to help the local schools to look at energy efficiency and climate change. We will be assisting the schools be providing them with educational resources and continuing professional development for the teachers, as well as identifying speakers and workshops that can visit the schools.
